I am looking to spend the summer in Juneau Alaska with some family. I would be flying out from Eugene Oregon OR Portland Oregon. The cheapest i can find the tickets is for $540… any ideas what time of year and where i can find some cheaper tickets?
I can go to Orlando, Florida round trip for less than $200!
Going out of another airport isn’t really much of an option since Eugene is already an hour and a half drive while portland is 4 hours.
Thanks for the help all. but the fairy system won’t work since i am only 16 and would be going without my parents.
Well, maybe Ill just have to start saving for a while ![]()
Sorry, you can’t. In fact, $540 is an excellent deal for a flight into Juneau. Alaska Airlines is the only airline that connects Juneau to the outside so they feel they can charge as much as they want; I’ve paid up to a thousand dollars for a ticket to Seattle.
That said, the best time to get tickets is when the permanent fund checks come out in the fall. Check their website occasionally to find out when they have the PFD sale- it varies depending on when people start getting their checks.
If you want to spend a lot of time up here there are other ways of coming. Alaska has a well developed ferry system "Alaska Marine Highway" that is headquartered in Juneau. A boat leaves Bellingham once a week and, after several stops along the way, ends up in Juneau about two days later. If you don’t bring a car and don’t mind sleeping in a reclining airplane-like seat for two days, it’s cheaper and definitely more fun than flying. The other option if you want to bring your car is to drive up the Alcan (passport needed) then catch the ferry in Skagway down to Juneau. It costs more than just a straight ferry trip (because of the food, gas, and hotel/campground prices along the way), but it’s a beautiful drive.
Sorry if this is a disappointing answer. If you’re looking for a cheap place to visit, this ain’t it.

Summer is an expensive time to travel since students are out of school so more people start taking vacations. There are not a lot of airlines that fly into Juneau so that is another reason why airfare may be more expensive.
I would suggest alternative airports to fly out of or into, but Portland would be a bit of a drive from Eugene. Also the cities near Juneau would not give you any cheaper airfare because I think only Alaska Airlines flies out to Sitka or Juneau. The other airlines only fly to Anchorage.
